I've recently got back into photography from the old 35mm days with a D7000. I really appreciated your review. I feel like im working with an absolutely first class piece of equipment that gives you anything you could wish to achieve and learn the art and science of photography. But in a tactile human interaction way with those gorgeous buttons you mention instead of programming a computer menu. It's like peak analogue where u still had total authority over the software and feel more like a photographer using it. 👌

Being focused on pics primarily, I'm happy with my two DSLRs.... one FF and one APSC. I wish that EF lenses were having a drastic drop in prices though... My suspicion is that most people who went to mirrorless purchased a RF-EF lens adapter and just continued on. - Mirrorless for me does not deliver the bang for the buck IQ (image quality) improvement that the price increase alludes to. People are still complaining about their mirrorless camera setup performance (making videos) .... Plus I'm not sure if adapting a lens converter would give the same results when using the same lenses on a mirrorless body.

As someone who has toyed with photography for more than fifty years, and obviously I'm coming from film cameras, DSLRs are nothing short of a bloody miracle. Especially at the point when APS-C sensors hit 24 Mp and Nikon dropped the anti-aliasing filter. PCs and photo imaging software have kept pace with, and even greatly surpassed, anything you could ever hope do in a darkroom. Considering today's prices on "gently used" DSLR bodies, it makes no sense whatsoever not to have a separate body for just about every for every lens you own. Trying to change lenses on the street is a massive pain in the whatchamacallit. Then there's the possibility of drops and dust entering, so that by the time you manage to pull it off, the photo you wanted to take is long gone. Instead of a protracted rant about extremely aggressive marketing, exorbitant prices, and "forced obsolescence" imposed on DSLRs, by manufacturers selling mirrorless cameras, I'll just say "DSLR for the win, and forever".☝

I can easily palm a basketball so I have big man hands, naturally I like the bigger chunky bodies as well. Ergonomics go a long way with me, more so than menu hunting. Some of these dslrs also gave a metal body frame inside. Built tough. I don't see myself going full mirrorless for a long time, top end DSLRs are still amazing and they are no longer $4000.

With photographers who both enjoy the process and want great results, DSLRs aren't going anywhere. People may rely on their Sonys and whatnot for getting them almost any shot, but you hear conspicuously little about people actually enjoying using them. There are still going to be people who love the experience and capabilities that Old School DSLRs bring to the table, just as the rangefinder aficionados will keep loving their cameras. You can still buy new Pentax DSLRs, and they are gorgeously built, pleasure-to-use, and competent photography tools. Seriously, something like the K-3 Mark III may well satisfy anything I could want from a camera for at least the next ten years, and then some. Heck, with its tank-like build and the fine glass I can couple it with, it may even last me longer than that.

I think you have to divide mirrorless into two camps, new with the AI tracking focus and old ones. I still use a 6D and 77D. I will eventually get a Mirrorless camera but am in no rush. My biggest grip is when shooting portraits with a continuous moving model and having to take care of placing an AF point on the eye and stopping down due to AF DOF issues with f1.4.

I have the D7100/D7000 bodies, and as much as they have perfect ergonomics, they still are heavy for my tasted, the D7100 is a little bit lighter, but still heavy. I think the D5xxx size maybe perfect size, and not a lot of compromise to the ergonomics. I wish Nikon ended their DSLR line up with a refined version of the D5xxx. Because it is their most usable and practical version with tilting articulating screen. If they only put their high end mirrorless processor in it for better tracking, eye tracking, and face focus performance, add 8fps or more, better performance in 4k video recording, a lightweight weather sealed body, an optional battery grip with high capacity battery, and an inbody image stabilization, it would have been the perfect DSLR. This would have been the best DSLR they've ever made. To date the closes to this idea is the Pentax K70, but with worse video performance, autofocus, and no battery grip.

New sub here! The D7000 series in my opinion the best DSLR series in Nikon's crop DSLRs. When I was working in Radio and TV I shot on Full Frame Nikon and Canon rigs, while I loved shooting with them, they were a bit pricey for me in my non-professional life and when I wasn't working I was shooting on a Nikon D-90 DSLR and a Canon Rebel Film Camera. For Video I was shooting on either a Canon XL1 or the Sony XDCAM. I contemplated moving to a full frame system, but wasn't sure I wanted the expense, so I picked up the D5000, that little camera was actually really, really good. My wife isn't really into photography but she loved using it when we were at my daughter's softball games...unfortunately at one of those games is here my D5000 met it's demise. My wife had been using the camera at my daughters game and she's gets very, very emotional at games and well at point, during one of those emotional moments, she dropped my camera, it destroyed the zoom lens she was using and the mounting bracket on the camera. We got it repaired, but it just never seemed to operate the same after that. My wife felt so bad about the camera, that she bought me the D7200 that had just come out for christmas in 2015. The bundle came with two kit lenses and she bought me a Nifty-Fifty as well. This is the only camera I have used since. I have done street photography, portraits, events, real-estate shoots, product photography and drag racing. Not long after I got this camera, I picked up the sigma 18-35 1.8D art lens, I love this lens on the D7200 and in certain situations it does amazingly well for video. The downside to this great camera is it's not designed for run and gun typ shooting the AF sucks...I am looking to pick up the Z8 mainly for video, but I will not be letting go of my D7200. Glad you found your D7000 in such great condition. Enjoying your content by the way.
